KAS Software
Suppliers of map viewing and coordinate conversion software, bespoke digital maps, height data and gazetteers

MapView has the following features:
This software is free for download and subsequent use - indeed, there is currently no commercial version available. Please take the time to download our Windows map viewing program and any of our free maps or gazetteers you may wish to try out.
Additional maps are available for purchase; these are composites of freely available data from various sources, which are processed by us then saved in KAS Software's open gdf format. Have a look at our OS OpenData™ derived maps and also our USGS geotiff derived maps.
The hill shading algorithm used is fairly rudimentary but really quite effective for small-scale maps - shading is applied to south and east facing slopes only, with darkness proportional to slope steepness.
Gazetteer information is presented in a dialog box which allows searching by name - or part thereof - and by feature type. Matches can be sorted alphabetically, by distance or by regional/district location.
MapView provides a comprehensive interface with a large range of Garmin® GPS receivers - including the etrex Summit, etrex VISTA C, foretrex 101, GPS 12, GPS 38 and the Edge 305 cycle computer - with many Magellan® GPS units - such as the 315 - and provides a rudimentary interface with other GPS devices that support the NMEA output protocol.
The MapView program and associated getting-started files are packaged in a self-extracting zip file which requires little more than being double-clicked upon to start the installation program.
The program comes with comprehensive help which should ensure trouble-free use.
