Using data available via the Ordnance Survey's OpenData™ initiative, we supply full maps of Great Britain at a variety of scales, height data for GB at a useable resolution, and gazetteer information with varying degrees of detail down to postcode level. Our composite OpenData™ height data map, most of our gazetteers and all our smaller scale maps are royalty-free and can be downloaded at no cost whatsoever; larger scale custom composite maps, topographically shaded maps, and more detailed gazetteer data are available, reasonably priced.
We also supply USGS geotiff quadrangle files, which are themselves freely available for download from numerous US state and government websites. Buying from us removes the hassle of sourcing and downloading these files, which number in the many tens of thousands - for example, a medium-sized western state, such as Arizona, is covered by over 1,900 1:24,000 scale geotiffs, amounting to around 11Gb of precious broadband bandwidth (plus the non-trivial time taken to select, download and archive these files). For the whole of the US this amounts to a brobdingnagian number of files and a gargantuan bandwidth usage - which is why we offer to sell you bundles of those pesky files ourselves (elevation data optionally included).
The MapView map viewing software is free for private use. With height and map data from the OS OpenData™ project it allows for map & 3-D views of all parts of Britain; USGS geotiffs and the USGS National Elevation Dataset combined allow the same for much of the contiguous US; throw in fully searchable comprehensive gazetteers for much of the world, GPS connectivity, and the option of printed output to boot, and you have a comprehensive map display application.
This open, scaleable, gridded-data-file format developed in-house provides for storage of large volumes of raster data in a single file - easy to read, easy to share. Have a peek at sample gdf header info.
